1. Good fortune
2. A state of well-being and contentment: Joy
Many of us go through life seeking happiness and trying to grasp the concept of exactly what it is. With both definitions being so broad, an individual can easily get confused. Many may base the term “happiness” on what we call the “American Dream.” However, the phrase “American Dream,” is a cliché in itself. People have different dreams and ideals they want to pursue, therefore, “A big house with a white picket fence,” becomes a very narrow-minded ideal. If we look closely at the second definition we’ll realize that happiness is considered a “state.” A state is based on a person’s outlook on life. To put it in layman’s terms, if you think you’re happy, you are (Pharrell Williams – “Happy”). No matter what situation you’re in you can still be happy. Contentment plays the biggest role in happiness; If one is satisfied with life, one can be happy with life. I encourage all readers to be open minded when thinking about happiness and how to achieve it. You can be happy with exactly who you are, and where you are in life at this very moment.
